Chronological vs. Biological Age
This tool calculates your Chronological Age, which is simply the amount of time that has passed since your birth. However, scientists also study Biological Age, which measures how fast your body is aging based on your cells (DNA methylation). A healthy 50-year-old might have the "biological age" of a 40-year-old!
The Leap Year Problem
Calculating age manually is tricky because not every year has 365 days. Every 4 years, we have a leap year with 366 days (adding February 29th). Our calculator automatically accounts for these extra days to ensure your "Total Days Alive" statistic is 100% accurate down to the day.
Cultural Age Differences
Did you know age is counted differently around the world?
- International Age: Used in most countries (and by this calculator). You start at 0 and turn 1 after 12 months.
- Korean Age (Traditional): In the past, Koreans were considered "1 year old" the moment they were born, and everyone gained a year on New Year's Day, not their birthday. This system was officially abolished in 2023.
How to Calculate Age Manually
If you want to do the math yourself without a tool, follow these steps:
- Subtract your birth year from the current year (e.g., 2025 - 1990 = 35).
- Check the month. If the current month is before your birth month, subtract 1 from your age.
- If the months are the same, check the day. If today is before your birth day, subtract 1.
